In the 67 years since the first nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan, August 6, or Hiroshima Day, has become a date for remembering the devastation of war and contemplating a peaceful world.

Now, as the nuclear menace once again looms large in the wake of last year’s Fukushima disaster, Melbourne’s Japanese for Peace group presents its 8th annual Hiroshima Day Peace Concert.

Acoustic duo April Maze and shamisen maestro Noriko Tadano will join Hiroshima bomb survivor Junko Morimoto in a diverse lineup of speakers, artists and musicians for an afternoon that promises to inspire, inform and remind us all that world peace is within reach.

In the foryer on the day, there will be HIroshima & Nagasaki poster exhibit to commemorate the 'Mayors for Peace' 5000-city milestone.

Proceeds from the concert will go to the NGO, Peace Boat, which will organise children in Fukushima to come to Australia to have a summer holiday without fear of playing outside.

Performers:
Junko Morimoto – Children's book author, "My Hiroshima"
Carmen Warrington – Tibetan singing bowl
April Maze – Acoustic duo
SKIN – Indigenous choir
Leigh Sloggett – Slide guitar
Noriko Tadano – Shamisen
Speakers:
Dr Helen Durham – Red Cross Australia
Dr Peter Karamoskos – Medical Association for Prevention of War

In the foyer on the day, there will be peace posters from Nagasaki on exhibit.
