Izakaya Hachibeh has been establishing its status as a Japanese Izakaya with affordability and accessibility since its opening in 2009. There has been an explosion in the number of izakayas in Melbourne with a number of izakayas opening one after another. Still, Izakaya Hachibeh maintains a unique existence.
Bringing Mass Culture to Melbourne
Dishes offered here are just like those found in izakayas in Japan. Its menu, heavy with a rich variety of dishes, contains more than 100 choices with no equal, and we can find the owner’s dedication expressed in the menu. “Izakaya Hachibeh” exists as a place where people can enjoy the exact same food found on menus in Japan and it also provides a situation where friends can get together for a drink on the way home after work, much like a typical izakaya in Japan.
Preparation beyond Expectation
Dishes offered at Izakaya Hachibeh are prepared without any corners being cut. As soon as you taste them, you can tell that each dish has taken time and effort to prepare. If you consider the cost versus quality of the dishes, there is really no choice but to try Izakaya Hachibeh.A variety of sashimi and sushi prepared by an experienced sushi chef. You will be entertained by its beautiful appearance as well as its taste.
Enjoy Japanese Summer Eating!!
We asked for a recommendation of dishes that would go with Kirin Megumi and the image of Japanese summer: cooling off on an engawa (a Japanese veranda/porch) while eating watermelon or with an uchiwa (a fan) in one hand and a beer in the other.

6 pcs sushi roll, 8 pcs nigiri sushi, 14 slices sashimi
A dish of assorted sushi and sashimi created by hand by a sushi chef. Its gorgeous presentation and beautiful appearance reflects the skills of a Japanese chef.

Thick ox tongue which is first stewed and then grilled to create the solid taste and the light and soft texture, attracting an increasing number of return customers. Needless to say, this dish matches Kirin Megumi.

This “chilled Chinese noodle” is one of the seasonal dishes in summer in Japan. There are two kinds of sauces: sesame and soy sauce (the picture shows the noodle with soy sauce flavour). Plenty of mayonnaise and mustard adds depth to its taste making it even more delicious! Please try this regular summer dish!

Yuko-san, a floor manager, says, “I only drink beer!” She sticks to beer and often drinks after work. Kirin Megumi with its fresh taste is recommended at Izakaya Hachibeh.
“I value communication with customers more than anything, particularly because I am in charge of the floor. There is an increasing number of customers, who ask for Kirin Megumi, without us recommending it to them.”
“To be honest, there used to be many people who didn’t know what Kirin Megumi was, so this change has been surprising. In addition, more local customers than Japanese customers order Kirin Megumi for their first drink, and some may even think of Japanese bottled beer at Hachibeh as being ‘Megumi’.”
“We set prices of dishes and alcohol as low as possible to provide affordability and ease for anybody to come and eat at Izakaya Hachibeh. Therefore, students and working holiday makers can casually visit us and have a good time especially in a group. Please visit us on your way home from school or work, just like you would in Japan.”

Cheers!
For a drink after work, come and drink at Izakaya Hachibeh rather than at a bar for a change. Red lanterns and a flag that proclaims “We have beer” will welcome you with a full feeling of nostalgia. In addition to Kirin Megumi, the Hachibeh original Japanese sake “Hachibeh” is recommended. Why don’t you catch your breath at Hachibeh at the end of a busy day?
