On Saturday 2nd July, over thirty Victorian participants in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme took part in a Pre-Departure Orientation Session in Melbourne. The participants will depart for Japan on Saturday 23rd July to work as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) or Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) as part of the 2011 programme.
The JET participants took part in four workshops on contract details, ALT team teaching, roles of CIRs, culture shock management and general life in Japan. The JET Alumni Association members shared their valuable advice and experiences from the JET Programme.
The Acting Consul-General of Japan, Mr. Yasufumi Kotake wished the JETs all the best for the year ahead and encouraged them to actively promote the Japan-Australia friendship.
Twelve departing JETs also seized the opportunity to visit The Japanese School of Melbourne on Tuesday 5th July.
The JET participants had a unique opportunity to tour the school, talk with students and sit in on an English class held in Japanese.
