Rumiko Saka – Violin

Rumiko trained at the Prague Conservatory and Prague National Academy of Performing Arts after graduating at the head of her class from Tokyo’s Kunitachi College of Music Junior High and High School. Rumiko performed in Germany, Austria and throughout Europe as the lead violinist of the Thuri Oboe Quartet. In 2004, she participated in the Tokyo performance of the Super World Orchestra conducted by Zubin Metha, a gathering of the world’s top concert masters. In 2005, Rumiko moved to Australia, becoming the violinist for the Birrarung Trio in Melbourne, appearing on the radio, and ensuring the success of the Birrarung Trio’s 2008 Japan Tour. Rumiko has actively participated in the local community concerts such as the Eye-Bank “Gaze at the lights” concert and the charity concert for the Tohoku Disaster. She is currently the senior violin teacher at Mackillop College.

Tomoe Kawabata – Piano

Japanese-born pianist Tomoe Kawabata has quickly emerged as one of Australia’s most exciting and sought-after musicians. She has performed in concerts and festivals in Europe, Canada, Australia and Japan, and as a concerto soloist has performed with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Targu Mures State Philharmonic Orchestra, Sibiu Symphony Orchestra and “Dinu Lipatti” Philharmonic Orchestra. She moved to Australia in 2002, after completing her studies at the Tokyo College of Music, Tomoe’s first recording, ‘Five Rocks in a Japanese Garden’ – a collection of two-piano and four-hand works by five of Japan’s most prolific contemporary composers with duo partner Aura Go – will be released on the Master Performers label later this year.
