2012 Melbourne Summer Festival Report

English    Japanese

11th Feb 2012, it is the Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival again.

At first we were concerned about the thick cloud, but later the gentle sunshine erased all of our anxiety.

Since it started in 2010, the visitors of the Summer Festival has been increasing graduately, and this year, the number of the visitors hit the record of 12,800.

A large number of Melbournians came from suburbs all over Victoria to enjoy this summer event.

The venue was divided into 4 large parts: various food stalls, Main Stage, Obon space, and the game area. Visitors were able to enjoy themselves to the most in different areas.

There were a lot of families in the groud, and the popular yo-yo balls were completely sold out .

People were dressed in Yukata, Lolita outfit or simply cosplaying characters from popular manga and anime. Seems like how people enjoy themselves is almost the same around the globe.

Staff wearing nattily clad were mixed in the crowd. They were giving directions and offering helps at all time.

Although the event groud was full of people, but everything was in order. We could move very smoothly in the groud.

The most busy area must be the food stalls. You don't really see long queues here in Australia, but in the Summer Fest, people just get their food in one stall and go line up for another.

The most important moment of the day was the door prize draw. When it started, people gathered from other areas and gazed at the hosts.

This year's first prize is the round-way air ticket to Japan for two. From people's eyes, we could see they were serious about winning the prize.

They won a voucher for Mizuno sports shoes (roughly $200). Congrats~!!

When the Summer Fest came to the end, it felt people were having a such hard time leaving. On our way back, we saw a lot of families and couples walked slowly as they go.

We hope to see you there next year!
