On Friday, September 20, Monash University Japanese Studies Cantre invites Minister (Political) and Head of Chancery Mr Kensuke Yoshida from Embassy of Japan in Canberra and a seminar is held under the theme of "Thoughts on the Australia – Japan Relationship After the Election".
Mr Kensuke Yoshida Biography
Since August 2013, Mr. Yoshida has been responsible for overseeing the Embassy’s political and security affairs section. In addition to managing the Embassy’s responsibilities as they relate to Australian diplomatic and domestic policies, he has also assumed overall responsibility for the Embassy as Head of Chancery. Before assuming his position in Canberra, Mr. Yoshida served as Director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo (2011-2013) and worked closely with the Australian government on programs such as the Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Initiative (NPDI). He has actively participated in international disarmament conferences and symposiums, including the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review process, the United Nations Conference on Disarmament Issues, and the International Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons in Oslo. He has previously served as the Principal Deputy Director of Human Rights and Refugee Affairs Division, in the East Europe Division, and in the Second Africa Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo.
Mr. Yoshida joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1987 after graduating from the University of Tokyo with a Bachelor of Laws. He was educated at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and at the Graduate School of Art and Sciences at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and speaks English, Russian and Japanese.
